PHILIPPINES – As the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte continues to dominate the political landscape, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is choosing to keep his attention elsewhere.
Malacañang said Marcos is not focused on monitoring the impeachment proceedings, maintaining that the President has other government priorities to attend to.
The Palace stressed that Marcos is not involved in the impeachment process, which is being handled independently by the Senate.
Instead, the President continues to focus on matters involving infrastructure, water security, investments and job creation, as the administration works on its broader governance agenda.
The statement comes as the impeachment trial remains one of the country’s biggest political stories, putting renewed attention on the relationship between the Marcos and Duterte camps.
But for Malacañang, the message is clear: while the impeachment proceedings command the nation’s attention, the President is keeping his eyes on the business of governing.
