Nepal-China floods leave 1,400 dead, over 5,800 missing

At least 1,400 people have died and more than 5,800 remain missing after devastating floods and mudslides struck areas along the Nepal-China border in late August.
In Nepal, authorities have recovered 1,357 bodies, while 5,326 people remain missing, including 587 foreigners, according to the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. More than 13,500 people have been rescued so far.
On the Chinese side, 43 people were confirmed dead and 519 remained missing following massive mudslides in the Xizang Autonomous Region, also known as Tibet.
The disaster struck on Aug. 26, sweeping away roads, bridges and homes near the border. Rescue operations have continued as authorities work to locate survivors and verify the growing number of missing people.
China has also sent additional emergency relief supplies to Nepal as both countries continue recovery and rescue efforts.
