PHILIPPINES – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has placed its Disaster Response Command Center under blue alert as it monitors Tropical Cyclone Saudel, which could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday at the earliest.
DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said the agency continues to closely monitor the weather disturbance while coordinating with other government agencies and local governments that may need assistance.
Under the blue alert status, the DSWD closely tracks weather conditions, ensures the availability of relief supplies, and coordinates with local officials for a possible rapid response.
The agency currently has more than 3.7 million boxes of family food packs stored in strategic hubs and last-mile areas across the country.
More than 369,000 boxes are available at the Luzon Disaster Resource Center in Pasay City, over 512,000 in the Visayas Disaster Resource Center in Mandaue City, and more than 174,000 at the Mindanao Disaster Resource Center in Butuan City.
The DSWD also has at least ₱667 million in standby funds to support disaster response operations.
Dumlao said the agency is ready to quickly deploy logistical resources and response teams to areas that may be affected by the approaching weather disturbance, in line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The DSWD also reminded the public to remain alert and prepared for possible flooding and landslides as Saudel approaches the country.
