VANCOUVER, British Columbia — A year after the tragedy, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver invites the Filipino-Canadian community across Metro Vancouver for a Saturday evening mass on April 14 to remember the victims of the Lapu-Lapu Day festival incident.
The mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish, 5251 Joyce Street in Vancouver, and will begin at 5 p.m.
“The wounds from the Lapu Lapu Block tragedy remain in our hearts, but as a community, we find our greatest strength when we lean on one another and on our faith,” the consulate said in a post.
“All are welcome. Whether you come to offer a prayer, find a moment of silence, or simply stand in solidarity with the community, your presence is a gift. Let us walk this path of healing together.”
The consulate general’s scheduled mass adds to the growing solemn gatherings slated this April across British Columbia, dedicated to commemorating the tragic vehicle-ramming incident on last year’s April 26 Lapu-Lapu Day Festival that claimed the lives of 11 people and injured at least 32 others.
