Philippines – The Office of the Ombudsman is launching an inventory of individuals convicted by the Sandiganbayan to determine who among them are actually serving their sentences and who may still be out of jail.

The move aims to establish a clearer record of those who have already been found guilty by the anti-graft court and check whether their convictions are being properly enforced.

Ombudsman officials said the inventory is necessary amid concerns that some individuals convicted by the Sandiganbayan may remain out of detention despite already receiving final sentences.

The agency is expected to coordinate with relevant authorities to verify the status and whereabouts of convicted individuals.

The review could also help identify gaps in the enforcement of Sandiganbayan decisions, particularly involving cases of graft and corruption.

The Ombudsman’s move sends a clear message: a conviction should not end with a court ruling, it must also lead to accountability.
