Philippines –At least 32 people have died as the combined effects of the southwest monsoon or Habagat and tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay and Neneng continue to affect communities across the Philippines.

The Office of Civil Defense said the number of people affected has climbed to around 8 million, equivalent to about 2.3 million families.

At least 25,800 people remain in evacuation centers, while 19 others were reported injured and three remain missing.

Benguet recorded the highest number of fatalities with 15 deaths, mostly linked to landslides. Other casualties were reported in Rizal, Batangas, Caloocan, La Union, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro and Negros Occidental.

The disaster has also caused extensive damage to homes, infrastructure and agriculture. Infrastructure losses have reached PHP6.11 billion, while agricultural damage is estimated at PHP2.32 billion. Nearly 3,000 houses were damaged, including 349 that were totally destroyed.

With 117 local government units declaring a state of calamity and government assistance reaching PHP1.65 billion, authorities continue to provide relief and support to affected communities.

As the rains persist, the scale of the damage is becoming clearer: millions displaced, billions in losses and dozens of lives lost to weeks of relentless weather.
