MANILA- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is more than halfway done with the first phase of a drainage improvement project along Manila North Road that will ease flooding in San Fernando City, La Union.

DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said the drainage project which covers a total length of 1.1-kilometers located at Barangays Sevilla and Catbangen is now 65 percent completed.

“Soon, the modernized drainage will be a big help to residents living in flood-prone areas of San Fernando City especially during rainy season and onslaught of typhoons,” said Director Tan.

Director Tan added that the project will be the answer to pleas of people living in low-lying parts of the city as it is designed to be the long term solution to perennial flooding in the city.

The drainage improvement project in San Fernando City which was inspected by Secretary Mark A. Villar during his visit in Ilocos Region covers the construction of a 424.9-lineal meter concrete flume along Aguila Road; 32-lineal meter double barrel box culvert along Flores Street; 280-lineal single barrel meter box culvert along Mabini Street; and a 111.8-lineal meter single barrel box culvert along Manila North Road.
