The decision of Malacañang to declare a countrywide cancellation of work and classes on Monday due to the two-day transport strike protesting a program that seeks to phase out jeepneys at least 15 years old just shows how “nervous” the administration is, PISTON president George San Mateo said.

Works in all courts, government offices, and classes in all levels are suspended due to the transport strike.

San Mateo, the leader of the mass action encouraged the Piston members to “treat this as a challenge to continue with their strike on Oct. 16 and 17 as they are supported by a lot of countrymen who understand their plight.”

However, Land Registration Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member, Aileen Lizada said that the mass action could be part of the alleged plot to destabilize the government as she said they have been receiving reports that the transport strike led by Piston will be supported by other left-leaning groups.
