MANILA, Aug. 2 — Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon on Wednesday vowed to turn down requests from politicians who are using their influence to promote their people, which is a form of corruption.

“They want me to influence the promotion board to get their people promoted. Even that is a form of corruption will be put to nothing. I do not want to do that,” he said in a press conference held a day after his meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte.

“I don’t know nothing about the BOC, I only know to say no. Madami tawag but their request is…your request is a form of corruption…” he added.

With this, he appealed to these people to stop pressuring the BOC for their self-interest.

“My only qualification I can say no to influence the bureau. I will continue to say no. Please stop it,” the BOC chief said.

“This is not your property. This is the Filipino people’s BOC so don’t act you own this,” he further stressed.

On the other hand, Faeldon revealed that part of the marching order of the Chief Executive is to get rid of corruption in the bureau.

“Walang specific giving marching order about corruption. To stop corruption, any form. We talked other issues,” he added.

President Duterte allowed Faeldon to stay as head of the bureau despite its failure to stop the entry of PHP6.4 billion shabu shipment from China.

Both houses of Congress have conducted their respective investigations on the matter.
