SMITHS FALLS, Ontario — Nearly four years after Lawrence Bertrim disappeared, his family finally has confirmation of his whereabouts, but questions remain about how he died.
The Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that human remains discovered on August 6 at a property on Kelly Jordan Road were those of Bertrim, who was last seen in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022.
Bertrim’s remains are the third set of human remains discovered at the same property, adding another layer to an ongoing investigation involving multiple missing persons.
Police previously identified another set of remains found at the property as those of missing man Robert Lambert. Investigators have not said whether the cases are connected.
Police are still determining the cause of Bertrim’s death, and no charges have been laid. A $50,000 reward remains available for information leading to a conviction in his case.
For Bertrim’s family, the discovery ends nearly four years of uncertainty over where he was, but not the search for answers about what happened to him.
Investigators are continuing to examine evidence from the property and determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Authorities have asked the public to remain patient as the investigation continues.
After years of searching, Lawrence Bertrim has finally been found.
Now, investigators must determine how he died and whether his case is connected to the other missing persons whose remains were discovered at the same property.
