Philippines — Weeks after aspiring Navy officer Aldwayne Dulnuan died during military training, his family continues to seek answers as they await an update on the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Dulnuan died on July 22, a day after he collapsed following a scheduled 5-kilometer run at the Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui in San Antonio, Zambales.

The Philippine Navy has said there was no indication of foul play and that an investigation was underway. It also reported that the medical cause of death was a severe infection affecting the central nervous system, accompanied by a compromised respiratory system.

But for Dulnuan’s family, questions remain about what happened during his final hours.

His mother, Stella Bunoan, previously said the family had yet to receive an update from the Navy even eight days after his death. The family has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his collapse and subsequent medical treatment.

According to reports, Dulnuan completed the scheduled run before experiencing dizziness and severe chills and eventually collapsing. He was initially assessed for possible cardiac arrhythmia, heat exhaustion and electrolyte imbalance before being transferred for further medical treatment.

The family has sought a clearer timeline of events, including what happened immediately after Dulnuan collapsed and how quickly medical assistance was provided.

They also want relevant training logs, surveillance footage and medical records examined as part of the investigation.

For Aldwayne’s family, the search is not only about determining how he died, but whether proper procedures were followed and whether anything could have been done to save him.

Dulnuan was a physically fit athlete and licensed pilot who pursued military service with the dream of becoming a Navy officer.

Weeks later, his family is left grieving while still waiting for answers.

They want the truth about what happened to Aldwayne, and justice if anyone is found accountable.
