CANADA – Heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms across southern Saskatchewan on June 27, triggered flooding in some areas of Regina and drenched a few communities. According to Environment Canada, Regina recorded 52 millimeters of rain within one hour as a slow-moving storm system reached the city.

Mankota, which is close to Grasslands National Park, saw the most rainfall, with around 100 millimeters of rain falling, including roughly 75 millimeters in an hour. The storm has produced a wind gusts of up to 78 km/h. Additionally, a pea-sized hail was observed close to Big Beaver.

According to reports, the storms’ slow motion made it possible for rain to build up over the same regions, raising the possibility of localized floods. Although summer thunderstorms are frequent, this year’s rainfall has been more than normal, according to meteorologists, and moisture-rich systems have persisted longer because of weak upper-level winds.
