LAGUNA, Philippines – Headed by Sonny Angara, PROJECT BUKAS is an open-data initiative by the Department of Education (DepEd). It aims to make the data of the schools under the program easily accessible, including the students’ exam results, enrollment, number of teachers, the state of the schools and classrooms as well as its inventory.
Its most recent program, the Classroom Leasing Program, focuses on the Senior High students of Don Manuel Rivera MINHS-Laguna. With the help of the local government, MINHS-Laguna found nearby private school establishments that closed during the pandemic that they are now renting. This has seven classrooms, a faculty room, and a cafeteria, with a covered court and shaded areas for rest. The school’s teachers were also given laptops and the school received desktop computers that the students can use with school-wide internet connection.
It is the first successful inauguration of a learning institution benefiting from the Classroom Leasing Program. The Department of Education states that this is the only the beginning of many more initiatives to further the learning of Filipino students.
