PHILIPPINES – The Department of Education is seeking a dedicated allocation in the proposed 2027 national budget to strengthen safety and security measures in public schools.
The move comes as the agency addresses security concerns and the shortage of security personnel in schools nationwide.
DepEd is seeking additional funding to increase the number of security guards and improve safety measures across public schools.
The department is also looking to strengthen support systems for learners, including measures addressing bullying, mental health concerns, and other risks that may affect students.
A dedicated budget for school safety would allow DepEd to fund security programs and other preventive measures more consistently.
The agency said improving school safety requires a coordinated approach involving school officials, teachers, parents, local governments, and other concerned agencies.
The proposed funding is expected to help schools improve their preparedness and response to possible security threats and emergencies.
DepEd remains the government agency with the largest proposed allocation in the 2027 national budget, with funding expected to support various education programs and services, including efforts to provide a safer learning environment for students and teachers.
