MANILA — While his co-stars from the movie “Trophy Wife” can freely promote the movie, Derek Ramsay could only watch from the sidelines. Ramsay admitted that his alleged ban from publicizing his movies bothered him.

“It saddens me because I came from ABS-CBN, which helped me become who I am today.

I made lots of friends over there,” Ramsay shared during a press conference. “They teamed me up with Judy Ann Santos [in “Ysabella”] when I was just starting.

What saddens Ramsay is that he is not allowed to promote his movies given that he is currently a TV5 talent and his contract won’t expire until next year.

In 2012, Anne Curtis owned up that ABS-CBN had told her to omit Ramsay’s name during the time when she was promoting their movie “A Secret Affair.” Curtis was prohibited from mentioning her co-star in the noontime program where she is a part of.  This was deemed because of Ramsay’s unexpected career move to TV5 in the same year.

However, the actor said that he has come to realize that the restriction was “a business decision – and I respect that.” This does not stop him though from hoping that someday Ramsay will be able to straighten things out with ABS-CBN.

“I’d really like to understand why there should be such a problem,” said Ramsay, adding that things could still be worked out between him and his former network. “But obviously, they’re not ready.”

When asked about whether he made the right decision to move to another network – “I did what I thought was best for my career. I’m happy to be with a network that I can grow with.”
