MANILA — Following his marriage proposal to longtime girlfriend Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes recently thanked his fans for their overwhelming support through social media.

Using his Twitter account, Dantes posted this message on August 9 – “Thank you to all the well-wishers… you are all part of our love story. This is certainly one for the books. Life changing! Cheers!”

Dantes and Rivera met in 2007 for a remake of hit Mexican TV series “Marimar.” Since then, they have been an inseparable love team with countless teleseryes under their belts.

Rumors of their impending nuptials have been circulating in the showbiz industry for the longest time. Last August 8, Dantes finally surprised Rivera during a live night show when he popped the question. What was supposed to be a joined birthday celebration for the couple turned out to be a pre-wedding party. Dantes turned 34 on August 2, while Marian will turn 30 on August 12.

After the proposal that was witnessed by no less than the million viewers of GMA, both Dantes and Rivera celebrated with their respective families. According to GMA Corporate Communications Head Angel Javier, “they [Dantes and Rivera] didn’t have time to talk to anyone,” as they were in a hurry to be with their loved ones to celebrate.

The proposal came at a time when there are talks about Dantes running for public office in the next national elections. Rivera showed her support to her fiancé by saying, “whenever I am asked to run in my home province of Cavite, I say no. But I’ve told Dong that whatever he decides in life, I would support him for as long as it would be good for him and other people.”

David also shared to The Inquirer that Dantes and Rivera will soon schedule a press conference to disclose their plans.
