It was a four-set game victory for the College of Saint Benilde (CSB) in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 94 match against the University of Perpetual Help at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan last Tuesday, November 4.

The sets ended at 24-26, 25-20, 25-13, and 25-21, with Lady Blazers rookie head coach Jerry Yee believing that his girls “were still cold in the first set,” stating, “So, we talked and made adjustments.”

Rachel Austero led her teammates at 20 points. She was aided by Klarisa Abriam and Maritess Pablo, who provided 14 and 10 hits. Their setter, Jewel Lai, also guided with 27 excellent sets and 10 digs. Cindy Imbo, on the other hand, attempted to guide their team at 14 points, but it was not enough to avoid a 1-2 record for the Lady Atlas.

This is the second win in a row for the Lady Blazers, their initial loss against defending champions Arellano University during the season opener.

St. Benilde’s next game is against Emilio Aguinaldo College next Tuesday, December 11. Perpetual Help will attempt to redeem themselves during their match against Lyceum of the Philippines University on Monday, December 10.

Last Tuesday, NCAA volleyball fans were also able to witness another face-off between Jose Rizal University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran, also in a four-set game that finished 25-23, 14-25, 25-15, and 25-16. Mary May Ruiz was the savior of JRU at 18 points, 20 digs, and 6 receptions. Teammate Dolly Versoza added 13 pints and 25 digs, which provided the Lady Bombers their very first win.

JRU will try to stay on a roll during their game against Mapua University next Monday, while Letran will attempt to avoid another loss to their run during their game against San Sebastian College next Tuesday.
