Ely Buendia denies rumors of Eraserheads reunion in UAAP Finals after viral video

This was after a 30-second video circulated last Monday, December 3, of Eraserheads drummer Raymund Marasigan, a graduate from the University of the Philippines (UP), performing the Filipino band’s 1994 hit “Minsan.” The post was captioned, “practice before game two.” Marasigan was joined by the band’s bassist Buddy Zabala and guitarist Marcus Adoro as well, accompanied by another person with blond hair that many presumed was Ely Buendia.

However, Buendia was quick to clarify to his fans that, “Whoever that blond guy in the video is, it’s not” him, adding, “I wish both UAAP teams the best of luck, though.”

He also joked, “The blond guy looks like (comedian) Vice Ganda from the back, to be honest. Possible collab with the other three, perhaps?” even concluding in Filipino, “Laughtrip how the guy taking the video only hints the blond guy. Giving the fans false hope,” stating, “Sometimes these guys are like sembreak. No class at all.”

Buendia and the Eraserhead members all met to form their popular alternative rock band when they were in college in the 90s. However, their last performance together was in 2009 at the Mall of Asia concert grounds in front of 100,000 people. Since then, they have been performing in their own respective bands, while Buendia has been flying solo. Just a couple of weeks ago, a remastered version of Eraserheads’ debut album “Ultraelectromagneticpop!” was released.

Despite the denial of an Eraserheads performance, Game 2 of the UAAP championship series will still proceed with the UP Fighting Maroons battling it out with the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles on Wednesday, December 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
