Alex Eala cruises past Mary Stoiana to reach US Open second round

Alex Eala made a strong start to her US Open campaign, dominating American qualifier Mary Stoiana, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the second round.

The Filipina tennis star controlled the match from the opening set, quickly building a lead before closing out the first frame 6-1. She maintained the momentum in the second set, breaking away from Stoiana to secure another comfortable 6-2 victory.

The victory sends Eala to the US Open second round for the second consecutive year, continuing her impressive rise on the international tennis stage.

Eala, currently ranked No. 18 in the world, entered the tournament as one of the rising names in women’s tennis following her breakthrough season, which included her first WTA title in Washington.

She will next face Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine in the second round as she looks to extend her run at Flushing Meadows.
