A 58-year-old dump truck driver died while a truck helper was injured after three dump trucks collided along the Infanta-Famy Road in Barangay Tignoan, Real, Quezon.
The crash happened at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, with the three dump trucks reportedly travelling in convoy from Barangay Sulib in Pangil, Laguna.
Initial police findings showed that a vehicle suddenly entered the highway, prompting the first dump truck to brake. The second truck then collided with the rear of the first, followed by the third truck crashing into the vehicles ahead.
The 58-year-old driver of the third truck became trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle. Rescue personnel from the MDRRMO, police and Bureau of Fire Protection freed him and brought him to the Quezon Provincial Hospital Network–Claro M. Recto, where he was declared dead on arrival.
A 48-year-old driver of the second truck and a 19-year-old helper were also injured in the collision. The helper was among those taken for medical treatment.
Police took the two other drivers into custody as authorities continued investigating the incident. An amicable settlement was also being discussed between the parties involved.
