PHILIPPINES – A familiar name in the Duterte camp is taking on a new role as lawyer Salvador Paolo Panelo Jr. becomes Vice President Sara Duterte’s spokesperson amid mounting legal and political challenges.
The Office of the Vice President said Panelo will serve as Duterte’s official voice, representing her positions and dealing with the media and the public.
Panelo has already been part of Duterte’s legal team, including her recent perjury complaints against Ramil Madriaga. His appointment comes as the vice president faces a grave threats case and an ongoing impeachment trial.
The appointment also carries a familiar political connection. Panelo is the son of Salvador Panelo, who served as former President Rodrigo Duterte’s chief legal counsel and presidential spokesperson.
With Duterte facing intensified scrutiny, her new spokesperson now steps into the spotlight at a time when every statement, legal move and political message carries greater weight.
