PHILIPPINES – Malacañang said it respects the Quezon City court’s decision to issue an arrest warrant against Vice President Sara Duterte over grave threats charges stemming from her remarks against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the administration will respect whatever decision or order is issued by the courts.

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 98 issued the warrant on three counts of grave threats and set Duterte’s bail at PHP120,000 for each count.

The cases stem from Duterte’s remarks during an online press conference in November 2024, when she claimed she had arranged for someone to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she herself were killed.

The Department of Justice later filed three criminal complaints against Duterte over the statements.

Duterte’s camp had sought the dismissal of the cases, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction.

With the arrest warrant now issued, the legal battle over Duterte’s controversial assassination remarks moves to another stage, even as the Palace maintains that the matter is for the courts to decide.
