Tarlac declares state of calamity as Habagat floods damage bridges, livelihoods

TARLAC CITY, Philippines — The entire province of Tarlac has been placed under a state of calamity following widespread flooding and infrastructure damage caused by persistent southwest monsoon rains.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Resolution No. 416-2026 during a special session on Sunday, August 30, upon the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The severe weather damaged portions of the Ninoy Aquino and Agana bridges in Tarlac City. Flooding also left major roads impassable and damaged crops and private property.

Transportation, access to essential services, agriculture and other sources of livelihood were also disrupted in several communities.

The declaration allows the provincial government to mobilize funds and accelerate relief operations, infrastructure repairs and assistance for affected residents. It will also support coordinated response, recovery and rehabilitation efforts across the province.

Residents have been advised to remain alert as monsoon rains continue to threaten flood-prone areas.
