MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila’s major transport hubs remained operational despite days of heavy rain from the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, as the Department of Transportation inspected key facilities to check for damage and service disruptions.
The DOTr inspection covered the MRT-3, EDSA Busway, Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez ordered the inspection to ensure commuters could continue traveling safely despite the weather.
The team checked the Quezon Avenue and Araneta-Cubao MRT-3 stations, including ticketing areas, elevators, escalators and CCTV rooms.
Officials said no structural damage or property losses were reported at major rail projects, including the MRT-7, North-South Commuter Railway, Metro Manila Subway and Common Station.
The EDSA Busway’s Megamall station was also found to be in good condition, while PITX continued operations despite intermittent rains. Only a few delays were recorded on Monday.
At NAIA Terminal 3, officials checked airport operations and monitored flights affected by the weather.
“Wala namang naitalang nasira,” DOTr Undersecretary Teodorico Delfin said, adding that MRT-3, EDSA Busway, PITX and NAIA remained in good condition after the heavy rains.
The DOTr said it is also continuing free-ride programs and providing temporary shelter, food, water and charging stations for stranded passengers.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines reported five canceled Cebu Pacific flights as authorities continued monitoring weather conditions and airport operations.
