PHILIPPINES – On Tuesday, June 30, the unannounced rally by the members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) along the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City posed a question of whether or not President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s trip to Canada would still proceed as planned.
This occurred as Marcos reportedly cancelled two engagements on the morning of June 30 in order to monitor the growing situation along the streets of EDSA. There were approximately 7,000 people present, causing a disruption of regular traffic flow.
However, despite the concerns, Acting Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed that the President will proceed with the flight to Canada. He will be leaving today, July 1, in order to begin his four-day official visit. He is expected to hold bilateral talks with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney and meet with the Filipino community currently located in Vancouver. Further, he will be meeting with Canadian business leaders and investors in order to promote the country as a business location and investment destination.
