Philippine President Marcos to visit Canada after 11 years

CANADA – Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to visit Vancouver, on July 1 to 4, 2026, making it the first visit by a Filipino head of state to Canada in 11 years.
Announced by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, they are expected to discuss how to strengthen bilateral relations, with conversations focused on trade, energy, defense, and cultural cooperation.
Carney highlighted the significance of Canada’s approximately one million Filipino-Canadian population, characterizing it as an essential conduit between the two nations.
He emphasized recent developments in bilateral relations, such as accords that broaden military collaboration through cooperative training and operations and a rise in Canadian direct investment in the Philippines of more than 40% in the last year.
The leaders are also expected to push negotiations for a Canada–Philippines free trade agreement while progressing a broader Canada–ASEAN trade discussions.
Marcos and Carney, according to reports, might explore collaboration in tourism, food and maritime security, critical minerals, and cultural exchange, as Canada seeks to diversify trade and deepen partnerships with allies.
