IELTS to grant 3 Filipinos up to P350K tuition support
MANILA — The British Council has opened the application for the 2023 IELTS Prize, granting test-takers with up to PHP350,000 (£5,000) tuition support in universities accepting IELTS in their admission requirements.
Three winners will be selected for the Philippines through a competitive application process, the British Council said Friday.
The IELTS Prize 2023 is open to students that meet the following criteria:
• Applied for undergraduate or postgraduate studies locally or overseas
• Scheduled to begin their course from January 2023 to March 2024
• Have taken the IELTS test with the British Council on or after April 1, 2022
• Holds a minimum overall band score of 5.5
The deadline for submission of applications is on Sept. 15, 2023.
“We believe international study and collaboration are key to building a more peaceful and prosperous world for everyone, and we are proud to support these ambitious and dynamic individuals in achieving their goals,” Heather Forbes, regional exams director for the British Council in East Asia said.
“The IELTS Prize provides an opportunity for candidates to get the most of their higher education studies, and return with fresh insights and new knowledge which they can apply in their home country and to the global communities they feel passionate about,” she added.
Lotus Postrado, Country Director for British Council in the Philippines, added they have seen the immense talent of Filipinos in the 45 years of the British Council in the Philippines.
“We are proud to assist these ambitious and intelligent individuals achieve their goals through opportunities such as the IELTS Prize,” Postrado said.
A team of IELTS Prize judges will score and evaluate applicants on the following criteria:
Inspiration: How well do your answers inspire and engage the reader?
Impact: Do your answers show you want to make a positive impact on your community?
Aspirations: Have you sufficiently expressed what you hope to achieve in the future and why?
Logic and organization: Do your answers convey your ideas in a clear and easy to understand way?
Scores will be based on a 10-point classification system and averaged to give a percentage.
The top 25 applications in each country will be shortlisted and proceed to phase two.
Alongside the Philippines, the IELTS Prize is also open to test takers living in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
