Teodoro, Sotto retain mayoralty posts in Marikina, Pasig
MANILA – Re-electionists Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro wins the mayoral race in Marikina City while Vico Sotto is set to serve his second term as Pasig City mayor as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) officially proclaimed them winners on Tuesday morning.
Teodoro wins the mayoral race in Marikina garnering 183,878 votes beating his rival, Representative Bayani Fernando who only got 40,149 votes.
“Nagpapasalamat talaga ako dahil nakita natin yung pagtitiwala nung mga tao (I’m really grateful because we saw the trust of the people). It’s overwhelming on my part and I am honored by this number of votes. The real challenge at our level is the post-Covid (coronavirus disease) recovery plan — how sustainable and how can it effectively implement such plan in this context that we are continuously trying to improve our condition,” Teodoro said in TV interview.
“We need to have a very sustainable healthcare system that is resilient, and more importantly, the economic recovery plan — generating jobs on our part, (and) how to keep our communities safe from Covid,” said Teodoro, who is now in his third and last term.
Teodoro’s wife, Marjorie, won the congressional race in the 1st District of Marikina. She garnered 68,572 votes. Teodoro’s running mate Marion Andres, also won along with the councilors under the banner of Team Marcy.
In Pasig City, Sotto was proclaimed winner as mayor by the City Board of Canvassers as he got 335,851 votes against his opponent, incumbent Vice Mayor Iyo Bernardo, who got 45,604 votes.
In his message, Sotto said he wishes Bernardo “peace of mind” now that the elections are over.
He also called for unity for all Pasig residents.
“Malinaw ang tinig ng Pasigueno. Malinaw ang tinig ng buong Pasig. Tuloy ang pagbabago sa lungsod. Paiigtingin pa natin ang mga nasimulan na (The voice of our Pasig residents is clear. The voice of the entire people of Pasig is clear. Change will continue in the city. We will continue what we started),” Sotto said.
His running mate, Dodot Jaworski, a former PBA player and son of basketball legend Robert Jaworski Sr., also won the vice mayoralty race against Junjun Concepcion and Christian Sia.
Re-electionist Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo also won the congressional seat against Ricky Eusebio and Rex Maliuanag.
