MANILA – Aboitiz InfraCapital (InfraCapital), the Aboitiz Group’s infrastructure arm, has deployed small cell networks in high-density cities to supplement the country’s existing telecommunications (telecom) infrastructure, noting its key role on 5G expansion.

In a statement on Wednesday, Rafael Aboitiz, general manager of InfraCapital’s small cell business, said the company’s small cell network is “readily available” in Subic, Cebu, and Davao to complement and boost the service quality of the country’s telecom companies (telco) and internet service providers (ISP).

“Consistent with our commitment to help meet the demand for better telecommunication services, we are happy to partner with telcos and other ISPs in accelerating the expansion of their network capacity and coverage throughout the country,” Aboitiz said.

Aside from supplementing InfraCapital’s existing common tower project, its small cell network will be used in the deployment of 5G which requires increased antenna density for high data download and upload speeds.

“As telcos and ISPs seek to increase antenna density to provide for the data demands of 5G technology and address network congestion, small cells are viewed as a quick and scalable solution,” InfraCapital said.

Similar to its common towers business, telcos and ISPs can share in InfraCapital’s small cell network for faster expansion, reduced costs, and lessen redundant sites.

A small cell network, it said, is a series of small low-powered, short-ranged antennas that provide coverage and capacity in conjunction with larger macro cell towers.

InfraCapital, in partnership with the Philippine government, pursues various water, airport, digital infrastructure and urban mobility projects—developing “fully integrated economic centers” in some regional areas. (PR)
