MANILA – The Makati City government is recruiting teachers, teacher assistants or aides, and tutors to work with its innovative educational platform that seeks to ensure continuous learning of students amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) health crisis.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Mayor Abigail Binay said the local government will be deploying mobile learning hubs in time when classes formally begin in the city.

The program dubbed as the “Makati Mobile Learning Hub” will help students and their parents to cope with the distance and blended learning modality under the “new normal”, Binay said.

“Through this initiative, we will be able to augment the learning resources of our students and, at the same time, provide job opportunities for teachers and teaching assistants who have been displaced by the closure or downsizing of some private schools,” she added.

Binaya said the main purpose of the mobile learning hubs is to support students who do not have any gadget or digital learning tool to use for the blended learning method.

“This project seeks to address inadequacies that may hamper the successful implementation of the blended learning approach,” she said. “It is primarily intended for students who lack gadgets and other learning tools, and parents who have difficulties guiding and teaching their children using the self-directed learning modules.”

Binay said the new educational project could also provide teaching professionals the opportunity to bring back their lost jobs during the imposed lockdowns—as part of the government’s response to the health crisis.

Each hub to be deployed is equipped with laptops and internet connection, and an array of books as well as supplementary materials that parents can borrow during the class sessions while the hired professional teachers, teacher assistants, and youth volunteers are tasked to provide tutorials to those residents who will request for their teaching guidance.

Binay added the educational mobile hub project also serves as a venue for learning and reading activities of the residents, book donation drives, and other events that promotes reading in local communities.

Professional educators, tutors, and para-teachers are encouraged to apply for the jobs through bit.ly/GuroDyipniMaki, the deadline for the recruitment is until August 15.

Qualified applicants should be a graduate of B.S. Education or any related courses in Mathematics, Science, Filipino, and English. The board passers applicants should present a valid professional license for teachers.

The Makati City government has vowed to provide all kinds of learning modalities “whether online, offline or without the need of any gadget” for students amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Binay assured that the city government will support and provide assistance to the teaching professionals hard-hit by the health crisis.
