MANILA – The city government of San Juan is in need of more nurses to work at the San Juan Medical Center, Mayor Francisco Zamora announced Tuesday.

“The positions available are Nurse I with a salary grade of 15 or PHP32,053 gross pay monthly plus other benefits,” he said in an advisory post on Facebook.

Zamora urged interested healthcare professionals to apply at the Office of Chief of Clinics from Monday to Thursday, and look for Ms. Maria Graciela Dianela or contact 8725-9338 or 8725-3928 local 205.

“Please come in business attire and bring your resume and relevant documents for assessment and interview,” the advisory reads.

Covid-19 protocols, measures

In a separate post, Zamora said the local government has revoked the business permit of a food manufacturing firm over its failure to comply with the city’s revenue code and health regulations.

“They were informed to get a certificate of compliance as part of the requirements for businesses to open this general community quarantine (GCQ),” he said. “They didn’t follow and continued to operate, thus the BPLO (business permits and licensing office) revoked their business permit for non-compliance of San Juan LGU regulations.”

According to the BPLO inspectors, the firm also failed to secure a health certificate and a travel pass from the City Health Office (CHO).

The BPLO inspectors also found out that one of its employees tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Zamora immediately ordered other employees to undergo quarantine after having close contact with the one who contracted the virus.

“Based on the same violation report you were also ordered to stop immediately your business operations due to health issues with your employees, but despite the said instruction, you defy such order,” BPLO chief Julius Avenido said in an order.

The business firm was ordered to cease and desist from operating, he added.

“Therefore, this is a clear violation of City Ordinance No. 91, series of 2013 otherwise known as City of San Juan Revenue Code of 2013 and Executive Order No. FMZ-039, series of 2020,” the order stated.

Zamora meanwhile reminded business owners in San Juan to secure the necessary documents before starting their operations.

Ito po ay para makasigurado tayo na fit to work ang inyong mga empleyado at sumusunod ang inyong mga business establishments sa mga patakaran at direktiba ng IATF (This is to ensure that your employees are fit to work and your business establishment is compliant with IATF policies and directives),” he said, noting that securing a “certificate of compliance” is free of charge.

Zamora warned business owners that failure to comply with the city’s protocols and measures will cause them the revocation of their permits.

Food security

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture has partnered with the San Juan government to push urban gardening within the city.

Zamora and agriculture Secretary William Dar signed a memorandum of agreement to implement the Urban Agriculture Program, which “aims to empower families living in urban areas to produce their own food.”

The program is also part of government’s measure to ensure food security and supply amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Zamora said.

He added that the DA will provide the city with assorted vegetable seeds, seedlings and other planting materials.

Zamora said the DA has initially turned over some 10,190 packs of tomato seeds, eggplants, mustard, snow cabbage (pechay), silk squash (patola) and two trays of seedlings with a sack of compost.

The San Juan City Environment and Natural Resources Office will manage the project, Zamora said.

The local government is yet to finalize the program’s guidelines and will soon announce the distribution of the planting materials to residents, he added.
