MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported 200 new persons infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of positive cases to 6,459.

During the Beat Covid-19 virtual presser, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reported 41 new recoveries and 19 new deaths.

The total number of recovered cases nationwide is now at 613 while the death toll stood at 428.

To increase the number of patients recovering from Covid-19, Vergeire said the DOH is using two main strategies – case prevention and early management of cases and contacts.

Ang pag-prevent ng cases ay magagawa sa dalawang sub-strategies, ang maging resilient o matatag laban sa sakit at stopping transmission o pagtigil sa pagkakahawaan (Prevention of cases can be done through two sub-strategies, being resilient against the disease and stopping the transmission of the disease),” Vergeire said.

Healthy diet, healthy lifestyle and proper stress management could help every Filipino in fighting Covid-19.

Sundin ang mga alituntunin ng enhanced community quarantine [ECQ], gumamit ng mask kung lalabas ng bahay, ugaliing maghugas ng kamay, huwag kalimutan ang wastong pag-ubo at iwasan ang pagpunta sa lugar na may kaso hangga’t hindi ito nadi-disinfect (Observe the ECQ guidelines, use masks when going out, wash hands regularly, don’t forget the proper cough etiquette, and avoid going to places where there are cases until they’re disinfected),” Vergeire said.

Meanwhile, shortening of the infectious stage of Covid-19 patients, early tracing, and isolation of their contacts comprise the proper management strategy.

The department ensures that there are enough skilled healthcare workers in our facilities and they are knowledgeable of the proper management of Covid-19 patients and equipment to ensure that not only patients are safe but also the) healthcare workers,” Vergeire said.

She added the DOH ensures there is enough supply of personal protective equipment, medicines, medical supplies, and that healthcare facilities follow the guidelines in handling Covid-19 cases.

Vergeire also reported about the continued establishment of community quarantine facilities for Covid-19 patients with the help of local government units.
