Pinoy nurse experiences discrimination in Australia amid COVID-19 pandemic
The medical front liners in the Philippines are not the only Filipinos who were being treated unfairly amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic because even the ones who are risking their own lives to save others abroad were experiencing discrimination.
Adding to the many stories of discrimination was a Filipino nurse in Australia who reportedly received a letter blaming them for the coronavirus caused by COVID-19.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Cat Dolendo found the letter in the mailbox of her in law’s which reads, “F*ck off back to the country you came from and take your f*cking disease with you, you un-Australian c**ts.”
Based on the report, Dolendo and her family have been residing in Port Macquarie in New South Wales for 20 years already, thus, they consider themselves as Australians.
Despite this, she said their family “have had to deal with constant abuse like this for long enough.
”
“We don’t know what to do,” Dolendo said as quoted as saying in the report.
Dolendo coordinated with the local police station to report the incident and fortunately, she has the video footage showing who the culprit was.
Some Asian people continue to deal with their own fight against discrimination as they are being blamed for the coronavirus pandemic which began in Wuhan, China.
But many individuals, regardless of their nationality, have been coming to the defense of people with Asian heritage, saying that now is not the time to point fingers and instead unite as one to defeat the virus.
