Families in evacuation hubs due to restive Taal down to 5.9K

MANILA — The number of families remaining at evacuation centers due to the eruption of Taal Volcano last January 12 has dropped to 5,953, or 20,297 persons, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.

In its morning update, the NDRRMC said these families are housed in 129 evacuation centers.

These figures are significantly lower than 6,830 families reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the agency said the volcano’s eruption has so far affected 129,171 families or 483,389 persons residing in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon.

As of 2 a.m. Wednesday, a total of 2,070 volcanic earthquakes were recorded from the Taal Volcano network.

The volcano remains under Alert Level 3.
