Passenger rescued after jumping onto incoming LRT-1 train
MANILA – A passenger who jumped onto train tracks of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) on Wednesday morning was rescued but sustained injuries from the fall.
In a statement, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) said a 32-year-old female passenger jumped onto the train tracks at the Doroteo Jose station as a northbound train was approaching.
“At 06:45 a.m., a 32-year-old female passenger jumped onto LRT-1 train tracks at the Doroteo Jose station as a northbound train was approaching, causing a delay in the train operations,” the LRMC said.
The company said the passenger was immediately pulled out from the tracks and was brought to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for initial medical observation and was later transferred to Medical Center Manila for a full examination.
Initial medical findings showed that the passenger sustained head lacerations and bruises from the impact with the train tracks, and was scheduled to undergo an x-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan.
Following the incident, the LRMC commended the train operator and the operations and safety teams for their presence of mind and quick response to the incident.
The LRMC also called on the riding public to follow the rules and regulations implemented at the stations and inside the trains for everyone’s safety and for the efficient operations of the rail line.
“The company reserves the right to deny entry to individuals who pose safety and security risk,” the LRMC said.
