Canada lands on 3rd spot as world’s best country — report

Canadians now probably could not get any prouder after Canada was listed as the third best country in the world.

This, according to the 2019 Best Countries report published by US News & World Report on Wednesday, January 23.

Canada followed Japan which was ranked number two and Switzerland that remains to be the first for three consecutive years.

Completing the top ten are as follows: Germany which landed on the fourth spot, followed by United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia, United States, Norway, and France.

Although Canada fell from the second spot from last year’s ranking, the Great White North, however, took the top spot for quality of life category, besting Sweden and Denmark.

Under the category of best countries for women, Canada obtained the third place, also landing on the third spot in the best countries for education.

The annual ranking of the world’s best countries is conducted by U.S. News & World Report, in partnership with BAV Group and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

They evaluate “80 countries across a range of categories, from economic influence and military might to education and quality of life, to capture how nations are perceived on a global scale.”

Eric Gertler, U.S. News’ executive chairman, said in the report that the rankings “arms citizens, thought leaders, business executives and government officials with the data to evaluate the global standings of their nations and leadership.”

For Michael Sussman, chief executive officer (CEO) of BAV Group, the rankings “can help brands understand the potential power they have in connecting to their home nations, and help guide in managing their own branding.”

Also cited in the U.S. News’ report was Wharton School professor David Reibstein, saying that the list “speaks to the value of having a strong global standing as nations compete for investment, tourists and influence in the same way companies compete for consumers’ dollars.”

Apart from the top 10 countries mentioned, other countries included in the world’s best countries for 2019 were: Netherlands, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Singapore, China, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Ireland, South Korea, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Russia, and Portugal.
