All the effort put into this would go to waste if we don’t learn to be more conscious of the damage we humans cause on a daily basis. Let’s try to minimize that, not just here, but everywhere we go. (Photo: @Coleen/Instagram)

Actress Coleen Garcia clarifies her perspective in response to a public comment on her social media account that claims contradiction on her stance on President Rodrigo Duterte.

After the rehabilitation of the island of Boracay, Coleen shares a photo on Instagram of herself enjoying the newly-clean paradise. In her caption, she says, “Falling in love with Boracay all over again! Walked from station three to station one to see what has changed so far. I love that the island is noticeably cleaner, and you can walk around and all over the sand without being afraid of stepping on broken glass.” She adds, “Congratulations and well done to those who helped clean up Boracay! I already can’t wait to come back!”

After receiving 250,000 likes on the post as of writing, one commenter by the name of Reginald Melchor responds in Filipino, “Before you were mad at Duterte, thank him now because if it wasn’t for him, you wouldn’t fall in love with Boracay again,” referring to the Chief Executive being responsible for the tourist spot’s cleanup. Garcia was quick to defend herself, declaring in Filipino, “How can you say that I am angry at him? Yes, there are some things that I have questioned and disagreed with, but there are also many things I am grateful for.”

She continues to stand up for herself talking about respect, “I neither hate nor completely adore, but I do respect. And I hope you respect my opinions too.” In applause to the President, Coleen says, “I do commend him for what he has done for Boracay. It’s important to have leaders that care about our environment because sadly not everyone does.”

Coleen has expressed her opinions about the president numerous times, initially stating her reaction to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) saying that she has “so much love and respect” for the “wonderful leader,” but after expressing her dismay on the police raids at Ozamis City in 2017.
