DOLE bares top 10 local, overseas jobs on Labor Day

MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday released the Top 10 overseas and local employment opportunities that will be offered in the different Labor Day job fairs in the country on May 1.

In a statement, the DOLE said a total of 143,085 job vacancies are available, with 84,914 jobs overseas and 58,171 local jobs.

A total of 37 Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) and business fairs nationwide with 1,099 participating employers, 209 overseas and 89 local, joining the events.

The top 10 vacant jobs overseas are: 7,010 Nurses, (General Nurse, ER Nurse, Labor/Delivery Nurses, Staff Nurse, Home Care Nurse, Assistant Nurse, Clinic Nurse, Dermatology Nurse, OBGYN Nurse, Telemetry Nurse); Technicians (various field), 1,558; Food and Beverage (F&B) Staff, 1,089; Construction Worker, 1,050; Cleaner (Male/Female), 905.

Also included are: Waiter/Waitress, 715; Drivers (general, heavy duty, truck, family, forklift driver/operator, light vehicle), 504; Laborer, 399; Tyre Fitter, 391 and Engineers (mechanical, electrical, civil), 364.

On the other hand, the top 10 local job vacancies are: Production Machine Operator, 9,093; Combat Soldiers (Armed Forces of the Philippines/Philippine National Police), 5,052; Construction Worker, 3,280; Customer Service Representative, 2,750; Mason (finishing/rough), 2,385.

Other local jobs available are: Carpenter (finishing/rough), 1,708; Call Center Agent, 1,506; Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Agent/Staff, 1,504; Production Worker/Factory Worker, 1,463 and Service Crew, 1,113.

The event’s main celebration will be held at the IC3 Pavillion, Cebu City while the commemoration in the National Capital Region will be at the Quezon City Hall Mutli-Purpose Area, Quezon City.

Meanwhile, the labor department reminded employers in the private sector to strictly observe proper payment of wages of their workers on Labor Day, a regular holiday.

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III issued the rules prescribing the proper payment of wages for regular holidays, pursuant to Proclamation No. 269 issued by President Rodrigo R. Duterte on July 17, 2017.

The following pay rules to be implemented on May 1 are as follows:

If the employee did not work, he/she shall be paid 100% of his/her salary for that day [(Daily rate + COLA)] x 100%]; while for work done during the regular holiday, he/she shall be paid 200% of his/her regular salary for that day for the first eight hours [(Daily rate + COLA) x 200%];

For work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work), he/she shall be paid an additional 30% of his/her hourly rate on said day (Hourly rate of the basic daily wage x 200% x 130% x number of hours worked);

For work done during a regular holiday that also falls on his/her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 30% of his/her daily rate of 200% [(Daily rate + COLA) x 200%] + [30% (Daily rate x 200%]; and

For work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work) during a regular holiday that also falls on his/her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 30% of his/her hourly rate on said day (Hourly rate of the basic daily wage x 200% x 130% x 130% number of hours worked).
