MANILA, Philippines—Kris Aquino bares her soul to social media as she recalls the time when she too was once depressed.

Amidst the recent propagation of discussion on depression, the Queen of All Media on Thursday took to Instagram to express her sentiments on the condition that plagued many, including herself.

Depression is caused by many factors; among them are genetics, hormone levels, medication, and most commonly, stress. What made Kris break?

For Kris, the black dog of depression came after she lost her spot on television.

“There was a period of time when I was depressed & scared that all doors were closing,” she wrote.

Kris left her home network ABS-CBN in September last year. Since then, she has not had a regular television show on any network.

Her depression didn’t go unnoticed by her family and friends who were worried of how depression had changed her.

“My sisters were worried because I wasn’t me; I shut down, kept to myself because I didn’t want to burden them with my insecurities,” Kris wrote.

While some would be scared of the financial burden losing a job could bring, it wasn’t the case with Kris. More than anything, losing the space to make her voice heard saddened her the most.

“My sons and I were financially secure but it was painful to not have a venue to continue doing what I love most—connecting with you & entertaining you.”

But as an old adage goes, “Every cloud has a silver lining.” Her disappearance from television channeled her attention to another medium—vlogs.

Soon after, Kris is back on her feet with The Aquinos on YouTube where she gets to do what she had been doing on TV for a very long time—hosting a magazine show. The only difference is that, now, she is not watched on TV but on computers, tablets, and smartphones.

In The Aquinos, Kris also gets to share tales of her family’s travel in and outside the country, as well as the lifestyle activities the whole family commits to.

“God blessed me with a new team that restored my confidence. We chose to just keep going and not give up,” Kris said, referring to her new production team.

Yesterday, Kris shared another “victory” following the success of The Aquinos.

“Today was a victory, because we signed a new endorsement and it is a perfect match for the new online platform we envisioned and continue to build,” she wrote, referring to an endorsement for a multinational pharmaceutical company.

“Every day i thank God for sending people my way who believed we could survive the storms & embrace the beauty of life’s rainbows,” she added. “May God also give you hope to trust in Him through every chapter of your life.”

As #KeepGoing spreads on the internet, Kris Aquino’s story of resilience is a reminder that if we would just keep on going, a ray light would peek through the dark clouds and soon, the black dog would leave, the clouds would clear, and the sun would shine on us again.
