The Manila Police District (MPD) had presented Abel Macaraya as the primary suspect in the April 28 Quiapo bombing.

MPD Chief Superintendent, Joel Napoleon Coronel, identified Macaraya as the primary suspect after being confirmed by  witnesses and the closed circuit television camera footage retrieved in the area.

Macaraya had already gone through inquest proceedings as he faced charges of multiple counts of frustrated murder and illegal possession of explosive cases.

Authorities have  yet to determine if Macaraya is also involved in the twin bombings in Quiapo last Saturday.

Coronel said that Macaraya’s arrest negates the claim of international terror group ISIS who earlier  claimed responsibility for the bombing.

A day before the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, Macaraya placed a “pipe bomb” on the sidewalk between Quezon Boulevard and Soler Street around 10 in the evening on April 28 — the blast wounded 13 people.

In another incident, a delivery boy and rider had dropped off a package in a Shiite community in Quiapo last Saturday killing two and injuring four.
