MMDA asks security guards not to direct traffic
MANILA –The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded security personnel of commercial establishments and residential districts that they do not have the authority to stop traffic within their premises.
MMDA General Manager Thomas Orbos reiterated that only those personnel deputized by the agency can direct traffic within their respective areas especially if this would affect major routes.
Security personnel are also not allowed to stop traffic in favor of their clients or tenants.
“Except in emergency cases, only deputized traffic personnel of the MMDA have the authority to manage and control the direction of traffic,” Orbos said in a statement.
The MMDA and motorists observed that security personnel of business establishments have taken over traffic control resulting to congestion in nearby streets.
The MMDA official reiterated that the agency needs the cooperation of every stakeholder to improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila.
“We should all do our part to find solutions to the traffic problem,” Orbos said.
