MANILA – Former Philippine Constabulary general Antonio Abaya’s son, Jose Maria Abaya, shot dead a woman and wounded two other men aboard a passenger van during a shooting incident on Tuesday along Katipunan Avenue.

The fatality was assistant bank manager Joyce Santos.

The 50-year-old killer, Abaya, showed no remorse over his deed, according to police.

“Hanggang sa ngayon ay hindi ko siya nakikitaan ng pagsisisi (Until now, I don’t see him remorseful),” Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo said in a Philippine Daily Inquirer report.

“Ini-insist niya na sinusundan siya ng mga armadong tao. At kaya niya binaril [ang van] ay para sa kaligtasan niya (He insists that he was being followed by armed men. And the reason why he shot the van was for self-defense),” Marcelo said in an interview with dzMM.

Abaya immediately surrendered to the Quezon City Police District, riding a motorcycle and carrying a .40 pistol he used in shooting the passenger van. He continued to assert, however, that he only did the act to protect himself.
