MANILA – Jesuit priest Joaquin Bernas, a member of the 1986 Constitutional Commission, advised the president to rest and let other “good people” take over.

“I’ll say, ‘Rest, there are other good people,’” Bernas, a Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist, said in an interview on ANC on Tuesday.

Bernas made the statement after being asked about the recent issues on the administration being open for constitutional amendment to lift the presidential term limit.

“That’s why the move now to reelect is very much against the spirit of the ConCom. It’s very much against (former President) Cory (Aquino) herself,” he said.

Bernas also added that Aquino must give chance to Sen. Miriam Santiago, who earlier announced that she is willing to run for President in 2016.

“Give (Sen.) Miriam (Santiago) a chance,” Bernas said in jest.
