MANILA – With two years left before President Benigno S. Aquino III steps down from the presidency on June 30, 2016, Malacanang said that the administration will make it a point to achieve its key advocacies.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in an interview over state-run dzZRB radio on Saturday that the administration will push for good governance to achieve inclusive growth.

“We want to make sure that as the President leaves office in 2016, he has laid the foundation for an economy that will provide equitable growth for all,” Lacierda said.

He said that the Aquino administration envisions a system where the public appreciation for the government has increased.

He further said that the goal was not to go back to where the Philippines was before the Aquino administration since the public always expected better from governance.

“Despite the many issues we have to handle on a daily basis, Filipinos can expect standards of governance have risen and they should not allow those standards to go down again,” he said.

The presidential spokesperson meanwhile said that President Aquino has yet to mention any presidential aspirants he was willing to endorse for the 2016 elections.

“We will have to wait for the process to proceed and take its course,” Lacierda said.

It can be recalled that the President has in his previous speeches, urged Filipinos to elect an official who would continue the reforms he has started.

“We should take into consideration (electing a president) who will continue the projects that we started and continue the kind of government people expect,” Lacierda said.

He quoted President Aquino saying that the next president should possess basic principles of honesty in the public service.

“(President Aquino) mentioned that he wants the next president to continue the reforms and to make whatever resource we have made irreversible,” Lacierda said.

“One way to make the reforms irreversible is to find the next president who can push the reforms even further,” he added.
