The City of Vancouver is currently developing a ‘A healthy city for all: Vancouver’s Healthy City Strategy 2014 – 2025’ with a commitment to develop a long-term strategy for healthier people, healthier places, and a healthier planet.

This is a great opportunity for living wage advocates to chime in, as the framework for the strategy ‘Healthy people: taking care of the basics‘ includes the following aspiration-Goal 5: Making ends meet and working well : ensure ‘adequate income and access to a broad range of healthy employment opportunities.’

The City of Vancouver has provided a number of opportunities for you to influence this process:  One way to participate is through an upcoming “Ideas Lab,” to be held on:

– Mon.  May 5th,  6.30pm-9pm of at Trout Lake Community Centre;

– Sat. May 10th,  1:00pm to 3:30pm at Vancouver Public Library, Central Branch, 350 W Georgia St.

– Thurs. May 15th, 6.30pm-9pm at Ryerson United Church, 2195 West 45th Ave.

We strongly encourage you to take part in these discussions and help the Cityunderstand why a Living Wage Policy needs to be included in Vancouver’s Healthy City Strategy.  We also encourage you to circulate this message among your members, colleagues, friends and networks.
