NCR tankers capture seven golds, four in record breaking times

SAN JOSE De Buenavista–National Capital Region (NCR) tankers made an amazing splash, capturing seven golds out of the 16 at stake, highlighted with their four record-breaking feats in Tuesday start of the swimming competition of the 60th edition of the Palarong Pambansa at the Binirayan Sports Complex here.

Sancho Mau Ilustre and Jerald Jacinto the Big City’s onslaught in the pool, each captured two golds including a record smashing performances.

Ilustre’s two golds came in the elementary boys’ 200 meter butterfly and 400 freestyle, respectively, while Jacinto’s smashing victories were recorded in the secondary boys’ 100 meter back and 200 meter medley relay, respectively.

Ilustre, clocked 2:07.28 in the 200 meter butterfly for a new meet record and posted 4:10.78 for the win in the 400 meter freestyle, while Jacinto established a new meet records in 100 meter backstroke (59.64 seconds) and in the 200 meter medley relay (1:52.65).

Big City’s other gold medalist in swimming are Nicole Pamintuan who set a new meet record in secondary 100 girls’ meter back (1:07.61);Althea Baluyut in the secondary girls’ 200 meter butterfly (2:26.91); and in the record smashing victory of the secondary girls’ 200 meter medley by the quartet of Raven Faith Aloseba, Tanya Angeli de la Cruz, Nicole Meal Pamintuan and Lauren Camille Buico.

Kyla Soguilon of host Western Visayas, the 2017 Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Junior Athlete of the Year, highlighted host Western Visayas two golds in the pool.

Soguilon, 12, of Kalibop and grade VI pupil of Sunyat Sen School captured the gold on her favorite 100 meter backstroke (elementary girls), and in the 200 medley relay together with Jade Lyxym Ladrillo, Gabrille Barlin and Marie Joe.

Other top winners are Mathieu Adrin Tao of Davao Region who took the gold in the elementary boys’ 200 meter freestyle (2:10.77) beating Mico An Del Poso who took the silver (2:14.30) and John Alex Talosig’s 2:15.10) for the bronze.

Mathieu also took the gold in the 100 meter backstroke (1:08.79) defeating Reu Rome Fra Tiu of Northern Mindanao (1:11.00) for silver and Isaiah Pavillar of SOCCSKSARGEN (1:11.65.

Mico An Del Poso of Central Luzon took the gold in the elementary boys’ 50 meter butterfly (29.83), beating Andre Geronimo of CALABARZON (29.84) who settled for the silver and Eryk Omandan of Davao Region (30.31)for the bronze.
