FDA warns on consumption of 6 ‘unregistered’ food products

MANILA–The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Sunday warned the public against the purchase and consumption of six food products found to be unregistered.

In an FDA Advisories Nos. 2017-070 and 2017-071, it identified the following unregistered products as: Tesorio Banana Crackers w/ Honey, Heredero’s Best Palawan Spicy Dilis, Tropical Herbal Syrup, Real’s Food Products Banana Crackers, Rum Cashew Otap, and Fatz Food Delicacies Ube Pastillas.

“FDA post-marketing surveillance (PMS) activities have verified that the mentioned food products have not gone through the registration process of the agency and have not been issued the proper authorization in the form of Certificate of Product Registration,” said FDA

The health agency added that unregistered food products do not undergo any evaluation and testing process of the FDA, thus, the agency cannot guarantee their quality and safety.

“The consumption of such violative products may pose potential health hazards to the consuming public,” said the FDA.

Also, under the FDA Act of 2009, the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertising, or sponsorship of food products without the proper authorization from FDA is prohibited.

“All concerned establishments are warned not to distribute the violative food products.

Otherwise, regulatory actions and sanctions shall be strictly pursued,” said the FDA.

Meanwhile, the FDA said all local government units and law enforcement agencies are called upon to ensure that the said products are not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdiction.
