New democrats unite behind John Horgan’s strong leadership

VANCOUVER — John Horgan was declared leader of the B.C. NDP today, uniting New Democrats behind his strong leadership for a better, more affordable B.C.

“I want to thank my fellow MLAs and the many volunteers and supporters who made this possible,” said Horgan. “And special thanks to my campaign co-chairs, David Eby and Michelle Mungall, two young leaders who are exposing the B.C. Liberals for taking limited funds away from single parents and university and college students.”

Eby was first elected in the 2013 election, defeating Premier Christy Clark in Vancouver-Point Grey. Mungall was first elected MLA for Nelson-Creston in 2009 and was re-elected in 2013.

“From day one, this campaign has been about building a united team to defeat the B.C. Liberals and make life more affordable for hard-working families,” said Eby. “New Democrats are strong, united, and excited to get to work with John leading the way.”

“Our work doesn’t end tonight,” said Mungall. “Over the next three years, John’s team will inspire British Columbians and show them that our province can do so much better than the B.C. Liberals. We will elect John Premier of a government that grows the economy with a balanced approach.”

Horgan will hold a media tour/photo op on Friday morning, details to be provided in a New Democrat Caucus advisory. An inauguration event will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 at the Renaissance Hotel in Vancouver.
