MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the oldest collegiate basketball league in the Philippines, donates the proceeds of basketball match between San Beda and Letran on Tuesday, Oct. 6 to Samboy “Skywalker” Lim who is still recovering from stroke he had last November.

Letran’s representative to the NCAA Management Committee Victor Calvo confirmed that the proceeds of the ticket sales of the said match will go to the hospital bills of renowned basketball icon as part of the league’s corporate social responsibility.

Lim used to play for the Letran Knights in college coached by Larry Albano before he became famous in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and became known as ‘The Skywalker’ but he also studied in San Beda during his younger years.

“It’s part of the corporate social responsibility of the NCAA. One of the icons of the NCAA si Samboy Lim. Kailangan niya ng tulong natin ngayon,” said Vic Calvo in an interview with Spin.ph.

The NCAA committee, said Calvo, hopes to surpass or to match the ‘Frantic Friday’ game of the six teams who are competing for the final four spots more than a week ago.

“It’s time to give back to those people who made the NCAA. It’s also a Christian obligation. Malaking tulong daw sa kanya kasi bedridden pa rin siya,” said Calvo.

Samboy Lim was rushed to the hospital unconscious after he collapsed during their exhibition game held at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, and showed no signs that something wrong happened with him during the exhibition game that eventually lapsed into coma.

The NCAA also accepted donations on the said schedule of the game.
