Executive Secretary Ralph Recto has inspected preparations for the Philippines’ hosting of the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits, as the country prepares to welcome world leaders and thousands of foreign delegates this month.
Recto, who chairs the ASEAN National Organizing Council, is overseeing coordination among government agencies to ensure that logistical, security and operational requirements are in place ahead of the regional gathering.
The Philippines is expected to host leaders and representatives from ASEAN member-states and its dialogue partners, including United States President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The summit is scheduled for November 15 to 17, with major meetings to be held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
Preparations cover airport arrivals, transportation, traffic management, accommodation, security arrangements and venues for high-level diplomatic discussions.
Recto earlier said nearly all items on the government’s preparation checklist had been completed, emphasizing the need for close coordination among agencies as the country prepares for the arrival of visiting officials.
He also stressed that the country’s hosting should go beyond organizing a successful international event, with agreements and discussions expected to produce concrete benefits for Filipinos.
Among the major priorities are stronger regional cooperation on economic growth, food and energy security, digital transformation and investment opportunities.
The Philippines is also pushing for progress on the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement and the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement, which are expected to strengthen regional trade and business cooperation.
As host, the government aims to showcase Filipino hospitality while providing a secure and efficient environment for leaders to discuss issues affecting Southeast Asia and its international partners.
